To support e-learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) announced yesterday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Education (MOE) to zero-rate several educational websites on behalf of students and children in Guyana.

GTT said in a statement that by rating websites zero, those who visited them would be able to browse – and learn – without an internet data plan. Some zero-rated websites include Education: profuturo.education, essentialschools.org, code.org, wikipedia.org, educationgy.org, guyanalearningchannel.com and Weather: (whole site) hydromet.gov.gy

GTT CEO Justin Nedd said in the statement that the company is always ready to work together to overcome the challenges facing the company.

“We are pleased to partner with the ministry to support e-learning during this pandemic. We recognize the efforts of the ministry, members of the teaching profession, parents and guardians to ensure that learning continues at a steady pace. We therefore hope that our contribution will go a long way in shaping the minds of our future generation, ”said Nedd.

Nicola Johnson, MEO’s acting head of planning, said in the statement that the ministry was grateful for the company’s partnership.
